Through painstaking research and experimentation, Hanwei is now making its own Tamahagane steel by the traditional method, smelting iron sand in a Tatara furnace. The result is our Paper Crane daisho.
L6 tool steel, when subjected to an exacting heat treatment process, produces a blade with an unparalleled combination of strength and flexibility. Hanwei’s ability to control this process has produced two all-new katana using this L6/Bainite blade, the Oni and Praying Mantis.

Featuring four distinct blade variations (Iaito, Katana, XL, and XL Light) each sword has been designed from the ground-up, with blade geometry specially adapted to the needs of each Japanese martial arts discipline. Iaito Series

Iaito have long been the preferred training tools for safe practice of the many Japanese sword drawing arts typically known as Iaido. While not designed for sword-on-sword contact or actual test cutting, the un-edged Iaito is perfectly weighted and balanced for its designed task of safe and repetitive drawing practice.

The Yari was an essential battlefield weapon of the Samurai and took great skill to use and maneuver due to its length and size. We now have two Yari designs, both based on originals dating to feudal Japan. The Naginata, famed weapon of the Sohei, or warrior monks, of medieval Japan was fearsome in the hands of a skilled combatant and is today of great importance in the martial arts field.

Tsuba

For the tsuba collector, the enthusiast wishing to create a custom sword or the sword owner wishing to customize an existing sword, Hanwei has created a line of katana tsuba replicating renowned pieces from museum collections. Each piece is authentically crafted in iron with gold detailing and has an antique finish that makes it difficult to differentiate from museum-conserved originals.

Our Japanese arrowheads (yanone) are faithfully reproduced from originals in museum collections. Some yanone were strictly utilitarian while others, like most of these examples, were beautifully pierced and decorated and used primarily for presentations and temple offerings.

Crafted by the armourers of CAS Hanwei, the armour is authentically detailed and completely realistic. These very affordable pieces are made with traditional styling and materials and are wearable (within a reasonable size range!).
